KJ-52
Five Two Television
KJ-52 is the Christian rapper who just keeps bringing the quality music with many musical leanings and yet it really works. If he didn’t talk about Jesus in his lyrics so often probably he could be a big secular rapper by now. Yet really I don’t think that is what KJ cares about. His message and his music are synchronised in such a way to convince people of the reality of Jesus Christ and also to minister to young peoples hurts and deep pains. He really is and continues to be the gold standard in Christian Hip-hop. Of course Toby Mac is really good too, but he has moved away from the rap and more toward rock and he sings now. So as far as pure rap with rock this is it.
This album is really well produced and you can’t believe this is a Christian record. I mean the quality is so high that you can’t put it in a box. It could easily cross over to the secular side of things. As KJ I think realises on one song where he says he won’t quit rap until he is as big as the Jonas Brothers and his face is on some pillow covers. Will the powers that be in music promote him like they do other stars? Well God knows and ultimately God is the biggest power that is, so if God wanted it, it could happen. Yet God is interested in saving people out of this world more than just taking over the popular culture. Of course God has at times taken over popular culture, but whether He does or not he will save those who hear Him. He speaks through KJ on this record calling people to know Him and know He loves them. KJ-52 has done it again, this is another great record and maybe his best. I give it a 9 1/2 out of 10.
